These days most people don’t have the luxury of time that the cowboys put into their horses-days of working a colt, miles of trail, and jobs to make them into a good horse. So we choose our stock for calm, quiet dispositions, and then we handle them from day one. By the time we wean them they are used to being handled, led, having their feet handled – and they seek out human company. They run with their mares in a 250 acre mountain pasture, and when we go to visit them, they come up to us. Horses are born with fully cognizant brains, unlike human babies – they are able to learn from the time they are born. So we give them a childhood that lays a foundation of acceptance and respect for humans that makes every lesson easier throughout their life and produces a calm, surefooted horse that retains his lessons and attitude, even when his owner’s life becomes too busy for regular work.
